Birthday weekend

We've had a very eventful birthday weekend... one I'm sure no one will forget. We had two very big milestones to celebrate on Saturday: Dylan's first birthday and Matt's 30th birthday. However, the "fun" started way before that. Matt arrived home from a two week trip to Nebraska on Thursday. Just in time to get things ready for the major snowstorm that was starting Friday. Mid-day on Friday, the snow started falling...We tried to go out a few times on Friday night to shovel to stay ahead of the storm, but when we woke up on Saturday morning, we had a few surprises. 1) About 27 inches total had fallen by Saturday afternoon -- and it was the thick, heavy snow that makes it hard to use the snowblower, 2) we had no power/no heat/no hot water so we had to wear hats and gloves inside the house, and 3) a huge tree in our backyard fell down and knocked out the fence. By Saturday afternoon, our power still didn't come back on and the roads still hadn't been anywhere close to being cleared. So thanks to Matt's AMAZING truck -- yes, I admit it is a good truck now -- he plowed a path out of the neighborhood!!! Then, being the wonderful husband he is, he went and got gas for the generator at the assisted living home! And on his way to the gas station, a plow truck was stuck in the snow in the ditch. And MATT PULLED IT OUT! Way to go Teal Tank!! :) After Matt got back from saving the day :) we all piled in the Tank and headed to my parents' house (who had electricity and heat!). It was quite a sight to see as we then had to plow INTO my parents' neighborhood. I think people thought we were crazy! But thanks to Matt's truck and Matt's wonderful ability to drive in the snow -- we finally made it. :) We were able to have a hot shower, eat warm food and have a warm house to sleep in. Thanks to mom and dad!! The next day, Dylan then got to play in the snow. He even attempted to eat it :) And Dylan had his first cupcake too. Although all he wanted to do was mash it to pieces. Maybe we will try vanilla next time. :) 48 hours later our power finally came back on. It's been an interesting weekend, to say the least.... but we had fun spending time with family and friends. Happy birthday to my two favorite guys! :)
