We have had our hands full since moving! For two days after we closed on the house, we spent the whole time cleaning... and that barely touched the surface of what needed to happen. There was mauve/purplish-colored carpet in the 3 bedrooms and grayish in the front room and office, and all of the bedrooms were painted some shade of mauve or purple. None of it was quite my style. Here's one example of it...

Additionally, since I have such bad allergies, we decided to check out what was underneath that carpet. And to our excitement, there were very nice hardwood floors in great condition!

So Matt spent some time ripping out all the old carpet,

while my parents, Aunt Patty, Paul, Danny & Timmy helped move boxes!

We then had the floors sanded and stained to match each other. But because there was some really really bad squeaky spots (due to a nailed-down subfloor), we had to have part of the floor tore up, the subfloor screwed down, and new floor put down.

To top it off, we then decided to have some fresh paint put on the walls to completely get rid of the mauve and purple! So it's been crazy!!! Although there's been some bumps along the way, we are very pleased about where we are now. Here's a glimpse of the final project: new paint and much better floors! (yes this is the same room in the first picture!!!)

There's still so many more projects to finish and plenty of things to do around the house. We have lots of boxes piled in all of the rooms, but we are slowly making headway at unpacking those -- a few at a time. We continue to make many trips to Home Depot and Lowes during the week. Maybe we should start to invest stock in those stores! :) All in all, we love having a place of our own again and are excited about the possibilities that it holds. And maybe we'll win the lottery to make it all come true! :)

It looks so nice! A lot of work but well worth it! Your hard-wood floors look great!
