When we first switched Dylan to a big boy bed, it was about a month before Parker arrived and it was simply a mattress on the floor as I had previously blogged about here. He LOVED the bed though. He never even got off of the mattress in the morning -- he waited for us to come in and get him. It was like he was still in his crib. It was wonderful!! :) Well, then Parker arrived... and Dylan tried to adjust to life with a sibling.... After a week of Parker being home, Dylan quickly realized he could get off the mattress, and his new favorite sleeping place became the floor!! Not just anywhere though... his preference was the hardwood floor with his head shoved in the door-jam so we couldn't open the door! He didn't want to go back to bed though. He WANTED to sleep on the floor and would scream and cry if you tried to move him away from this spot. After a while like this, Dylan kept waking in the middle of the night from being cold from the floor, we pulled out the pack-n-play and Dylan happily slept there for a while. Since we didn't want the pack-n-play to be a permanent fixture in our house, Matt then set up the actual bed frame a few weeks later, and Dylan made the transition beautifully back to the big bed. He still thinks of it as a crib, since he can't climb out yet, but we are okay with that! :) We initially pushed the bed up against the walls & corner so it gave some extra security from him falling out.... however we knew that it would need to be moved sometime soon... and that "soon" came this past weekend.
Dylan was supposed to be in bed sleeping when I heard him say: "Christmas tree...... Boat...... Pickup truck" That's when I realized, he was looking out the window at our neighbors yard! He was seeing the large evergreen tree, the kayak next to their garage, and the pickup truck in the driveway!!! I peered in and saw him standing in bed happily checking out the outside. Quickly grabbing my camera, I snapped a few photos -- they're blurry since I had them on the wrong setting, but you get the idea.
A few minutes later, we moved the bed away from the window -- only after a good photo op and a few good laughs ;)
