Staining the Deck

Our deck badly needed some attention. In an effort to salvage our deck, Matt decided to take on the task of staining the deck. We knew it would take a long time... but didnt realize HOW long! First Matt pressure washed it... .you can tell how bad the boards were from this picture.

The old stain was a reddish color. I wanted more of a brown to match the rest of the exterior of the house. The previous color was a solid (non-transparent stain), and to keep things consistent, we stayed with a solid color. After a big trip to Lowes and checking the weather for a sunny/non-rainy weekend, Matt started to stain....

Then as we were finishing up at night, an unexpected MONSOON came and washed away half of Matt's hard work!!!!!!

With that monsoon, more pollen, leaves, and twigs came down and wedged in all the deck cracks again!!! UGH!

Matt took a deep breath and grabbed his gear again and went back at it.

It looked so much better!

Then the tedious task of staining the spindles. And boy are there a lot of them!!!

But once it was done, it looked awesome!! So proud of my husband for sticking with it.

but we weren't done with the deck yet.... next up: rocks!!!
